Are you a mountains lover with strong IT skills? Do you have an entrepreneurial mindset and want to bridge both business, outdoors and IT?

At WeHike we offer the opportunity of joining a project to detect snow using Remote Observation satellites to help society enjoy the outdoors safely all along the year. In partnership with renowned research institutions at European and Swiss levels in the fields of Space and Geoinformatics, you will support project coordination and lead the Software Engineering efforts to make the solution a technical and business success.

In addition, you will form part of the core-team and heart of the startup together with its 2 cofounders, contributing to the development of the ultimate web platform which helps automatically organising and booking social outdoors trips.

Start date: 1 September
Duration: initially 9 months, if you and we find funding afterwards for the project 2nd phase, can be extended.
Location: EHL Incubator, Chalet-à-Gobet, Lausanne

Role: Solution Architect, Lead Software Engineer
Responsibilities with regards to the Snow project

  • Oversee the analysis, design and implementation of the solution
  • Prospect and Engage with unexisting potential users of the service
  • Gather user requirements and define the winning solution via interviews and mockups
  • Analysis and Design of the Solutions Data Access and REST API layer
  • Analysis of the solutions dependencies and maintainability, recommending and implementing tools and best practices to keep high standards on all software engineering aspects within the consortium by all partners
  • Design, Development and Testing of a Solutions Data Access and API layer minimal Proof of Concept Including Validation and Feedback gathering by user community
  • Identification of risks and costs of the Solutions Data Access and API layer and recommendations
  • Lead and coordinate the Software Engineering efforts and best practices within the consortium
  • Writting Documentation of all Tasks performed, as per ESAs guidelines

Responsibilities with regards to WeHikes web platform
  • Suggest and Implement methodological best practices adapted to the teams pace and size
  • Design and Implement new functionalities in WeHikes web platform in coordination with the team and in line with the business strategy
  • Implement unit and integration tests after identifying critical business paths in the solution
  • Fix UI problems for cross-browser and responsive compatibility of the Website in Safari and Firefox
  • Become a WeHike ambassador and participate in community building events
Required skills:
  • Strong entrepreneurial mindset
  • Degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Electronics or similar
  • Proven experience in Software Development and Object-Oriented Programming in Python and/or Java
  • Experience with Relational Databases
  • Experience with web development technologies: HTML/CSS, JavaScript, jQuery
  • Familiarity with REST APIs
  • Comfortable writting documentation at both conceptual, design and technical levels
  • Good communication and presentation skills
  • English a must, French a very strong plus, German not required but a plus

  • Geoinformatics, PostGIS, Django, Google Maps API, OpenLayers, Leaflet, GeoJSON, Stripe
  • Docker, Amazon Web Services S3, Memcache, Web Application Optimization techniques (GZIP, PageSpeed, Memcache), Continuous Integration
  • Lean Startup approach and Business Canvas modelling
  • Ability to talk both to business and technical users in their own words
